Making it onto the seeded lists for the men's and women's tournaments is certainly not a guarantee of progression to the business end of proceedings.
World No 1 duo – prior to the tournament – Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek are reigning champions in New York and but the latter is out and the former faces a tough slog to the finish line.
Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka are the pair in the hunt for the top places, and have both shown enough stellar form to suggest they could go long here.
